Waxing

Silky – smooth perfection, from head to toe

Waxing is a popular method of hair removal that involves pulling out hair from the root using a sticky substance, such as wax, which adheres to body hair. The wax is then removed, pulling the hair out from the follicle. This process can be done on various parts of the body, including eyebrows, face, pubic hair (bikini waxing), legs, arms, back, abdomen, chest, knuckles, and feet.

Types of Waxing

There are different types of waxing:

01

Strip Waxing (Soft Wax)

This involves spreading a thin layer of wax over the skin, applying a paper strip, and then quickly pulling it off against the direction of hair growth.

02

Stripless Waxing (Hot Wax)

This method involves applying a thicker layer of wax. The wax hardens when it cools, allowing for easy removal. This method is beneficial for people with sensitive skin as it adheres less to the skin and more to the hair.

Everything you need to know before booking a soft wax or hot wax treatment. If you are unsure which method is right for you, we will recommend the most suitable option during your consultation.

Soft Wax FAQs

Soft wax, also known as strip wax, is applied in a thin layer and removed with a paper or fabric strip. It takes away hair from the root and lightly exfoliates the skin at the same time.

Soft wax is ideal for larger areas with finer hair, such as the legs, arms, back and chest. Your therapist will assess your skin and hair before choosing the most suitable wax.

For the best result, hair should usually be around 5–10 mm long—approximately the length of a grain of rice. If you have been shaving, allowing roughly two to three weeks of growth is often helpful.

You may feel a brief sting as the strip is removed, especially during your first treatment. Discomfort varies by person and often reduces with regular appointments.

Gently exfoliate 24–48 hours beforehand, avoid applying oils or body lotion on the day, and arrive with clean, dry skin. Please tell us about any allergies, medication, active skincare products or recent skin treatments.

Results commonly last around three to four weeks, depending on your individual hair-growth cycle. With regular waxing, regrowth may feel softer and appear finer.

For the next 24–48 hours, keep the area clean and avoid heat, friction, intense exercise, swimming, sunbeds and strongly fragranced products. Wear loose clothing where possible and start gentle exfoliation only after the skin has settled.

You can, but shaving interrupts the waxing cycle and may make regrowth feel less even. For the smoothest long-term results, allow the hair to grow and keep to a regular waxing schedule.

Hot Wax FAQs

Hot wax—often called hard wax—is applied in a thicker layer and allowed to set before being removed by hand. No paper or fabric strip is needed.

Hot wax is particularly suited to smaller, more sensitive areas and coarser hair, including the underarms and other delicate areas. Your therapist will choose the safest and most effective method for you.

Yes. Nostril waxing is carried out using hot wax and removes only the visible hairs around the entrance of the nostrils—not hairs deeper inside the nose. The treatment is quick and can provide a neat, longer-lasting result. Please let us know beforehand if you have any soreness, irritation, infection, recent nasal surgery or ongoing sinus concerns, as the treatment may need to be postponed.

It can be a gentler option because the wax is designed to grip the hair more than the skin. However, every skin type is different, so we will check the area and discuss any sensitivities before treatment.

There may be a short, sharp sensation when the wax is removed. Many clients find hot wax comfortable on sensitive areas, but pain levels vary from person to person.

The wax is warmed until it is workable, not applied at a temperature intended to burn the skin. Your therapist will check the temperature before and during application, and you should speak up immediately if it feels uncomfortable.

Around 5–10 mm is usually ideal. Hair that is too short may not be gripped effectively; if it is very long, your therapist may trim it first.

Follow the same basic preparation and aftercare as for soft wax: arrive with clean, dry skin; avoid oils on the day; and avoid heat, friction, exercise, swimming, tanning and fragranced products for 24–48 hours afterwards.

Most clients book every three to six weeks, depending on the area and their hair-growth cycle. Regular appointments can help maintain smoother, more even results.

Benefits of Waxing

Waxing is a semi-permanent hair removal method, meaning that new hair will not grow back in the previously waxed area for four to six weeks, although some people may see regrowth in only a week due to different hair growth cycles. Regular waxing can weaken hair follicles over time, leading to slower and finer regrowth.

There are several benefits to waxing, including longer-lasting results compared to shaving, and the ability to remove hair from any part of the body. However, there are also some contraindications, such as taking blood-thinning medications, having certain skin conditions, or recent cosmetic procedures, which may make waxing unsuitable for some individuals.

Before You Book

Waxing may need to be postponed if the treatment area is sunburnt, broken, irritated or affected by an active skin condition. Recent peels, laser treatments, retinoids, isotretinoin, certain antibiotics, blood-thinning medicines and some other treatments can increase sensitivity. Please contact us before booking if you are unsure; we may recommend a patch test, medical advice or an alternative treatment.
